Audio Lounge reads SACD ISO directly on Mac and iPad—including DST-compressed audio—so the original disc image can remain intact on local storage, an external drive or a NAS. No conversion to DSF is required.
An SACD ISO is a disc image: a sector-by-sector representation of a Super Audio CD. Instead of storing each song as an independent file, the image can retain the disc structure, track boundaries and stereo or multichannel areas that were present on the original release.
The audio inside an SACD is DSD rather than conventional PCM. Some discs store that stream directly; others use DST, a lossless compression method designed for DSD. Audio Lounge includes SACD ISO parsing and DST decompression: it reads the disc structure, exposes the tracks, decompresses DST when present and passes the resulting DSD into its playback engine.
Audio Lounge understands the SACD filesystem, table of contents, stereo and multichannel programs, track boundaries and DSD payload. This is why adding an SACD ISO to Audio Lounge is different from opening an ISO in a general-purpose music player that only supports standalone DSF files.
Audio Lounge does not require extraction. Add the ISO itself and it becomes part of the same organized library as FLAC, ALAC, DSF and DFF. Keeping the disc as one archival object avoids creating a large folder of per-track files and preserves the original disc organization.
DSF remains useful when you specifically need one file per track, portable-player compatibility or tags embedded in each song. With Audio Lounge, conversion is an optional library choice—not a playback requirement.

SACD ISO files can be several gigabytes, so a NAS is often a more practical home than the Mac’s internal storage. The NAS only needs to expose the music folder through SMB; it does not need a proprietary music-server application just for Audio Lounge.
With SMB Direct, Audio Lounge connects to the share itself. On Mac, you do not have to mount that share manually in Finder first. Add the host, share and optional subfolder in Audio Lounge, scan the location, and browse the result as part of the same library as local music.

Audio Lounge Air is the independent iPad edition, not a Mac remote. It includes the same direct SACD ISO and DST decoding path, while SMB Direct lets the iPad read a large SACD collection from the NAS without copying it into local iPad storage.
